Port Townsend Residence was designed by the architects from Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and is located in Washington. The house has amazing views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca as well as of the Olympic Mountains. Here is some information from the developers about the project: “ Varied materials, from refined to rustic, reduce the scale of the 3200 square foot building and articulate each volume. A line of exposed steel structure and a series of wood columns extend the length of the slender building, supporting laminated wood beams and rafters. The primary spaces of the home are to the west of the columns, oriented to take advantage of the expansive views. The high roof over the living room slopes upward to take advantage of natural daylight. A fireplace made of concrete block anchors this room and serves both interior and exterior living spaces. Sustainable Retreat with Charming Design Details: Caterpillar House

Caterpillar House was designed by Feldman Architecture and is situated in the hills of the Santa Lucia Preserve, California. According to the architects, “Caterpillar House implements sustainable elements while exploring a contemporary version of the ranch ideals: massing that is low and horizontal, an open plan with a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, and main living areas which center informally on the kitchen. Connecting literally and figuratively to the site, excavated earth was repurposed for the construction of the walls. These rammed earth walls gently curve in response to the site’s contours and also act as a thermal mass, regulating temperatures from day to night. Capturing rainwater for irrigation, three tanks proudly sit close to the home – a clear sign of the available water resources for landscape. Large south-facing glass doors open the main living area to a large covered contemporary porch and to an outdoor patio with sunshades that expand and contract to allow for a flexible entertaining area that responds to the client’s needs. The glazing, natural ventilation and operable shading also act as a passive heating and cooling system, cooling the house in the summer and warming the house in winter. Paddington x2 House is a complex project implemented by MCK Architects and consisting of turning two terrace houses in Sydney, Australia into a single living space. Here is more information on this architectural conversion from the designers: “Via research and investigation we arrived at a concept of retaining and refurbishing the terraces, maintaining all characteristics and feature to the external skin while hollowing out the insides to allow the new program of contemporary family home. Being a heritage conservation area, the design is respectful and sympathetic with it’s context, while still engaging and challenging in some ways our understanding and perceptions of what heritage actually is and how we are to move forward as architects and 21st century people living in a city, and within a a culture, that is complex and multi-layered, with a need to act responsibly and sustainably for the environment. The 18-hole golf course will be situated near the Maldives airport and will be built upon floating platform for an unforgettable experience. The solar powered golf course will of course offer luxurious accommodations that would offer unparalleled views of the stunning surrounding reefs. Underwater tunnels will be built as well and the project will be led by Waterstudio.NL, Dutch Docklands and Troon Golf.

Feldman Architecture redecorated an old cottage in San Francisco and turned it into a beautiful family home. Here is the official description of the project from the developers: “One of the oldest houses in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, this 1860′s cottage sat in disrepair for years. Feldman Architecture’s charge was to repair, expand and modernize the small, dark house while maintaining the rustic charm of the original building. To accomplish this, the firm kept the facade and envelope of the existing structure and added a contemporary, but unobtrusive, addition: a narrow, ten-foot-wide wing that contains a garage, bedroom suite and studio office spaces on two levels. The roof and upper floor in the center of the house were cut away to create a central light core that washes a stone wall and illuminates the kitchen and living room. Large new windows create a connection with the backyard. Careful mixing of rough stone and wood with clean glass and metal breathes new life into the once-neglected structure”. Chances are that most of us will never get to spend that much money on real estate in this life time, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take a look at what some of the richest people out there are buying when it comes to luxury apartments. Rinat Akhmetov, which happens to be the richest man in Ukraine with a total worth of £10 billion, which puts him on the 39th spot in Forbes’ list of billionaires is the kind of guy that would spend £136 million, or $222 million on an apartment. The said apartment is part of the One Hyde Park luxury apartments project in London, UK, and, in fact, he purchased not one, but two apartments at the top of the building and joined them into a three-storey penthouse.
