Open the Door to More Savings • Give your refrigerator some breathing room by keeping the appliance at least two or three inches away from the wall. Also, place your refrigerator away from direct sunlight and appliances that produce heat to make your refrigerator run more efficiently. • Do you crave a midnight snack, but can’t decide what to eat? Keep your fridge full, not only to satisfy all of your midnight munchies, but also to help the fridge save energy after recovery from the door being open. • Check and care for the rubber seals surrounding the inside of your fridge by using mild soap twice a year to help prevent cracked and torn seals. Use your money to test the seals by placing a dollar bill halfway inside the refrigerator door. If the dollar pulls out easily, then your losing money in more than one way and it may be time to replace the rubber seals. • Enjoy a night of leftovers and defrost your fridge regularly. Wash, Dry and Ring out the Best Savings For Your Wallet • Use the high-speed cycle to toss out more moisture from your clothes, which allows for less time in the dryer and more time for you to spend your money saved. • It’s okay to air our your laundry, just make sure it is clean. Line-dry your clothes as much as possible, and you can see up to 5% saving on your energy costs. • Clean your dryer lint screen after every use. Dryer efficiency decreases as lint collects over time. More importantly, lint build-up can be a fire hazard, so make sure to have it cleaned periodically by a professional. • Refresh your clothes by washing a load in cold water. This saves on energy costs and helps lengthen the life of your clothes by preserving the color and the fabric. Clean Plate, Clean Mind • Save up to 20 gallons of water by hand -scraping your dishes, instead of running water for your pre-rinse. • Give your dishes a breath of fresh air by turning your dishwasher setting to air-dry or open the dishwasher after the rinse cycle. • Hold off on washing you dishes until you have a full load. Your dishwasher uses the same amount of water per cycle, so fill it up with all of your hand-scraped plates. • Give your dishwasher a wash of its own by running an empty cycle with a citric acid-based cleaner. The cleaner will remove soap and calcium build-up that makes your dishwasher worker harder than it has to. This is why today we would like to showcase the best projects presented in March according to your Facebook shares. As usual, by clicking on the pictures, you can see more photos and details about each project. According to your votes, the best project presented by Freshome in March is Before I Die …in Nola is an interesting art installation belonging to artist and urban planner Candy Chang . The artist managed to turn one of the walls of an abandoned house in New Orleans into a massive chalkboard where the residents can write their life-long dreams. What an unusual way to draw attention to one’s life objectives! #2 . Designed by Steve Kuhl , this amazing pirate inspired bedroom accomplishes a dream for pirate enthusiasts of all ages. Ingeniously constructed, the unique bedroom can be accessed by letting go of all fears and becoming a child again: at a superior floor, a hole in the wall takes you sliding down a slide to a comfortable pillow located in the actual bedroom. Once you get up, the eyes immediately rise to meet a wonderful, fairy tale structure: a large pirate ship high on the ceiling. #3 . Located in the core part of Girona’s medieval quarter and overlooking the Plaça de Sant Domènec, Spain, this is a property called Alemanys 5 located within an original building dating back to the sixteenth century. The house has been recently renovated by architect Anna Noguera and has and incredible design which incorporates both traditional and contemporary elements. #4. Villa Valentina is an impressive looking modern residence situated in Miami Beach, Florida, United States. Number 4 happens to be a glamorous home featuring no less than 6 bathrooms and 6 bedrooms. Its multi-level terraces and wide windows allow unobstructed views of the beautiful bay, while the strategically placed patio furniture ensures unforgeable moments outdoors- as if the beach were not close enough. #5. Readers’ choice number 5 is a Batman-inspired interior in Eden Motel , a true lovers’ nest located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. A king-sized bed, a Bat-mobile, cement-like walls, giant mirrors and of course, generous-sized Batman logos are just a few of the special features this crib has to offer. We found out that this place can be rented by the hour and that it costs 50$ for a three hour block. #6 . Zecc Architects managed the impossible: converting a 1931 water tower in Soest, The Netherlands into a contemporary home with no less than nine levels. As you probably already imagined, many challenges came with this uncommon “home renovation”. According to I New Idea , light was the main issue, as the tower only had a few small windows. The solution? Inserting a three-level high window which lets light in without interfering with the tower’s mid-century appearance. #7. Based on an array of beautiful scenery, the Alila Villas Hadahaa island resort in the Maldives is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation. Designed by SCDA Architects , the amazing retreat welcomes its guests with a surprising collection of inside and outside spaces. Featuring 16 Island Villas, 20 Island Villas with a private pool, and 14 Aqua Villas, the retreat complex is the first luxury resort in the Gaafu Alifu (North Huvadhoo) Atoll in the Maldives’ new southern frontier. #8.
