White kitchen cabinets are considered the most timeless element of kitchen design . They?re stark and bold and people are attracted to the arctic glow of it all. The key to designing with white kitchen cabinets is to make sure that the room has other contrasting features. You don?t want the kitchen to appear sterile and blank. What you do want is a kitchen with character, where the beauty of the white cabinets is complemented nicely with other colorful features. Let the Light Shine In Sometimes a kitchen window and a few hanging lights just aren?t enough to illuminate a dark area. By adding white cabinetry, you brighten the room and allow more features to soak up the spotlight. This works especially well in small or galley-style kitchens . Not only do the white cabinets make the space lighter, but also larger and more spacious. With the white cabinets blending into the background, the eyes are drawn to other features like gorgeous views out the window, fabulous decorative flooring or cheerful countertops. Cabinets as Canvas No one said that white cabinets had to be made of laminates or melamine – some of the classiest white cabinetry are painted white cabinets . The advantage of paint is that you can make them look more antiqued and vintage. They can also give your kitchen more of a country feel or a French provincial look. They won?t be as stark white as melamine, but that?s what gives them such charm. This style goes well with farmhouses, colonial-style homes or arts-and-crafts houses. It?s more relaxed looking and adds a bit more texture to the cabinets. They are light and airy, feel more spacious and look cleaner and less cluttered. Keeping most of the kitchen white can accomplish all of those things, but you still need to guard it from blandness. A great way to do this is with character-building features like intricate moldings, varying heights and depths of cabinets and adding glass inserts to upper cabinets or open shelves. Best of Both Worlds The decision-making process that goes along with kitchen remodeling can sometimes have you flustered. No worries, though, eclectic kitchens can be fun, too. Although white cabinets are timeless, they?re also great with other styles and colors. The old-fashioned statement that white goes with anything holds true for kitchens as well. So, if you?re not married to the modern or classic/traditional look that white cabinets offer, mix it up a bit. Modern style white cabinets mix beautifully with Old World wooden cabinets. Inversely, you can have white cabinets with a more antiqued look blended with wooden or laminated cabinets that are more in-sync with today. The first thing that strikes you is its original exterior design, with unusual windows and doors. The park around the building seems to follow the “oval” theme of the structure. The pictures display a simple, white and elegant interior design which is about to get crowdy once the workers will fill the place, no doubt. Just to have an idea about the size of the project, it was spread on a surface of 5,436 sqm. This beautiful Sci-Fi bathroom comes from Spiritual Mode and is what you could call an “unearthly” design. Notice how all the elements in the interior create the overall feeling of out-of-space:. The bathtub resembles an oval spaceship connected to the ground by futuristic elements and is also enriched by modern faucets. The light spot on the ceiling emits a blue, out-of-this-world light that is directed to the tub just like in the UFO movies. Designed by Staffan Tollgard Design Group , Notting Hill House was a traditional terraced house in Notting Hill that right now is a contemporary living space. The well-balanced use of natural and man-made materials creates a tactile journey through the ground floors harder ?public? areas up to the higher private floors where the couple that owns the house can escape a busy city lifestyle. Here are a few more words about this project from Staffan Tollgard Design Group. Our clients asked us to create a seamless, contemporary living space for an elegant lifestyle. They asked for a bold design statement that would immediately welcome their guests. We achieved this by pushing the ground floor open to its practical limits ? the only door other than the entrance is the one to the cloakroom. They wanted to multitask in this open, ?public?, space without compromising their entertaining duties. Thus the kitchen has become an integrated element of the living space; the island, with its bar area, provides a gathering point for both the guests and the host who can continue cooking without leaving the party. The garden effortlessly becomes part of this borderless ground-floor space through our addition of three-metre wide folding sliding doors. Materials link the outside with the inside: the stone-clad wall behind the dining table speaks to the more public nature of this entertaining space as well as to the garden beyond. The streamlined sleek elegance of the ground floor continues to underpin the design of the more private upper floors and the transitional space of the staircase that leads to them. The lounge and study area on the first floor are less minimalist, softer spaces but remain architecturally connected to the more contemporary and ?public? ground floor. The combination of the original architectural elements (cornices and high skirting boards), with the more contemporary finishes of the furniture represents a logical evolution of the statement the clients wished to make. The subtle colour palette is another layer in the creation of a calm and relaxing area for catching up with work or with after party guests. This interior comes form Olle Rex , a company of “young and enthusiastic architects” from Sweden. The place is called “The Karlavagen 59″ and it is basically a king-size apartment which includes a huge balcony, no less than four bedrooms and a large living-room with modern furniture and a fireplace. The kitchen is classic with a table for eight in the middle and elegant white cupboards. Some colors are randomply spread through the apartment (in the form of pillows, wacky paintings and objects) for additional charm and a more joyful atmosphere. There were no compromises made in designing the bathroom either. Take a look! Located in Lake Union, Seattle, this floating residence is a display of tasteful interior and exterior design. Its room structure was designed so that all the private areas like bedrooms and bathrooms be placed on the ground floor in order for the second story to be dedicated to one large entertainment room. Sliding doors reveal an outdoor terrace for relaxing and enjoying the views. The masterminds behind this project were Vandeventer + Carlander Architects from Seattle, USA.
