Yet one of my favorite memories is of her window boxes, which were perched on her home's front windows and spilled over with brightly colored flowers, usually geraniums. Window boxes are ideal for flowers, herbs and other smaller plants, and can instantly add cheer and color to your home's exterior. Plus, if you find yourself short on yard space, maintaining window boxes is an ideal way to get your gardening fix. Sure, you can buy window boxes at a variety of retailers. But where's the fun in that? We've compiled a simple window box project that you can do at home, then fill with your favorite plant or flower. Full details of the project are available at Home and Garden Ideas .

And is there a more perfect holiday to celebrate vintage snaps of the ones we love than Mother's Day?
“ Safe House ” was designed by Kwk Promes Architects and is located in Warsaw, Poland. The aim of the project was to create a two-level “fortress” that would provide a high level of security for the owners. Which is why the house features movable concrete walls that can pretty much isolate the entire residence when the owners are away for example. The house can literally be “closed” and “opened” according to the needs of the inhabitants. Here is more from the architects: “ When the set of 15 meter-long retractable walls on the eastern and western side are slid all the way out, the entry plot is enclosed into a temporary courtyard space. The back of the house, which faces an expansive garden to the south, features a 6 meter-high roll-down gate that completely opens up the interior to the exterior. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, presenting the living space with an effectively contrary impression to the one offered by the solid mass of the building .” We would be interested to know what are the main features that make a house “safe” in your opinion – architecturally speaking.
Feldman Architecture redecorated an old cottage in San Francisco and turned it into a beautiful family home. Here is the official description of the project from the developers: “One of the oldest houses in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, this 1860′s cottage sat in disrepair for years. Feldman Architecture’s charge was to repair, expand and modernize the small, dark house while maintaining the rustic charm of the original building. To accomplish this, the firm kept the facade and envelope of the existing structure and added a contemporary, but unobtrusive, addition: a narrow, ten-foot-wide wing that contains a garage, bedroom suite and studio office spaces on two levels. The roof and upper floor in the center of the house were cut away to create a central light core that washes a stone wall and illuminates the kitchen and living room. Large new windows create a connection with the backyard. Careful mixing of rough stone and wood with clean glass and metal breathes new life into the once-neglected structure”.
No matter how you feel about the taste of Peeps, there's no denying that they make for super sweet Easter crafts. Few people love Peeps so much that they want to devour them fresh, stale and in enormous quantities. Yes, I'm one of those people. But for the rest of you, I rounded up these tasty crafts that make even better use of the sugar-y marshmallow treats. Whether you want to spend your Easter crafting with your family or the days after doing something creative with those leftover Peeps, these projects should keep you busy -- and your home downright festive. Gerbera Designs ; Store and Style Easter Craft #1: A Sugar-Sweet Wreath First off -- a wreath that's bright, cherry and basically guaranteed to make guests smile. Gerbera Designs has the step-by-step for this simple project that makes excellent use of toothpicks and a straw wreath. Easter Craft #2: Tasty Placecards Still have leftover toothpicks? Use them as an excuse to get Peeps on the table...pre-dessert. These beauties elevate a normal placecard from a simple tabletop accent to the main event. Head to Store and Style for full tutorial. Mommy Savers ; The Hungry Mouse Easter Craft #3: A Cheeky Vase You can't beat fresh flowers...except for when you complement them with some cute bunny faces. Between the electric-colored dye and copious amount of sugar, Peeps are basically the opposite of organic so they definitely add a shocking element to an otherwise serene arrangement. Mommy Savers has the full instructions so you can bring this look home. Easter Craft #4: "Floral" Centerpiece No time to pick up flowers before guests arrive? Build one. And give it a nutritious place to grow. Like, uh, jelly beans. If you're going to put this in the center of your Easter table, be prepared for little hands to grab a taste. Hey, no sense in everything being too perfect, right? Get the step-by-step at The Hungry Mouse . Sugar Swings Easter Craft #5: Peep Pops We left in one edible craft -- though you might think these are too cute to scarf down. We love that the vanilla cover makes these Peeps look totally demure. Who knew they could look so chic when covered up? Get the full scoop at Sugar Swings and then make your own versions in every color combo imaginable. Choose to Thrive Easter Craft #5: Hilarious Artwork Why shouldn't your day-old candy qualify as art? This project cracks me up...and is hugely intriguing. What happened to the lone, bitten Peep? And why are the other Peeps standing there so innocently? Choose to Thrive tells you how it's done. Considering other Easter crafts? Check out.. Our Favorite Easter Crafts: No Eggs Allowed!
Miroshkin Michael and Miroshkina Elen from Geometrix Design have completed the interior of an apartment located in Moscow, Russia. Here is the description of the project called “Fantasy Island ” (from the designers): “Through the entrance lobby we get into the large sitting-room, where with the help of extendable glass partitions the kitchen area is detached. This decision determines the prescription of every zone logically, but at the same time doesn’t overload the space and makes it unique, light and airy. The main emphasis in the interior is focused on the home theater zone. This is not only the necessary part of the sitting-room but also the complete art-object. The switched off TV panel “ad notam” becomes the invisible part of big black glass panel with the all round embedded light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The construction arrests sight and its prescription astonishes. And in this case the idea aesthetics doesn’t pinch the functional purpose: we mean, the space for keeping CD and books on each side. Under the glass there is the commode with drawers, and all the construction continued straight to the ceiling in the form of lustrous panels with the built-in luminaires (lamps). The luminous decisions wide choice makes the interior change according to mood preferences. There is the “jack”(special thing) in the kitchen: the transformer –table with the remote control. One touch-and we get the dining-table, or bar counter. The bedroom with a big quantity of windows has the separate WC-and-bathroom unit and the dressing room, of course. We’ve took in (admited) the natural light into the WC-and-bathroom unit with the help of frosted glass, which was used as a partition. Also there were used natural materials as wood and stone. The beauty of two noble materials was underlined with the combination of colors.Fantasy and reality were interlaced in this project. And they made the wonderful “duo” of aesthetics and functionality. “(Photographs: Zinur Razutdinov) Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below !
